Wireless Containment System by Securus Technologies Helping Monitor Unauthorized Calls from Prisons

The prison industry has its own set of challenges, and it is up to the technology companies such as Securus Technologies to provide a solution to these threats. Among the many challenges that it faces, one is the use of illegal cell phones by the inmates. For decades, illegal cell phones are used by the gang members to carry out illegal activities and to order murdering of prison guards and their rivals from inside the prison. Since they are behind bars, they are not tried for the murders, and it becomes easier for them to control their area once they come out.

For criminals locked inside the prison, cell phones are a privilege. It allows them to communicate with their associated inside and outside and continue to run their illegal activities. The inmates use the cell phones to carry out everything from drug trafficking, prostitution and bookmaking easily and without being caught. The problem has further increased with many prison guards being extorted, blackmailed and even bribed to be unwilling participants of the crime.

Among the many reports of prison violence, one of the news that has been an eye-opening incident for prisons across the country is the murder attempt of Captain Robert Johnson. He was a prison guard at the Lee Correctional Institution, and his job was to detect and seize all illegal materials from the inmates. After one of his most significant drugs seize in prison, an inmate had contacted an outsider using an illegal cell phone to assassin Robert. He was attacked in his home and was shot at six times, but he survived. The state incurred his medical expense, but it opened the eyes of the government into the dangers that the cell phones inside the prisons held.

To control this problem, Securus Technologies has manufactured wireless containment systems that manage all calls being made to and from the prison facility. The wireless containment systems work as a cellular network exclusively for the prison where only the approved calls are allowed to be made. All other call attempts are disconnected and can be tracked. The technology is currently being tested in numerous prisons across the country and has received 100% success rates.

Using the technology, the illegal cell phones are also being caught when they attempt to call. In the past phone jamming technology was used but it used to out the guards at risk in case of any riots as there was no way to differentiate the calls made by the guards and the inmates. Wireless containment systems are highly sophisticated and help control every call made through the prison walls. Securus Technologies aims to add many more prisons and correctional facilities to their client list in the coming years.
